CALM WATERS

Cast glass tiles     5 ' x 42 '

Through the repetition of shapes, patterns and colors our intent was to create an atmosphere of quiet rhythm. By being able to look down on only the bow of the shell we could emphasize a boat gliding through calm water while still having the effect of movement through the undulating pattern of the water. Calm Waters exemplifies how artwork, designed for a specific place and group of individuals, can drastically change one’s visual environment. The U of I commissioned this piece for their new state-of-the-art boathouse tank room where collegiate rowers spend long hours practicing. In collaboration with Rebecca Ekstrand
